Sadie’s Diner

If you read my blog and you also read Sam’s, Davida’s, and/or Suzanne’s blog, you probably already know about our meet up on Sunday. But I’m going to write about it anyway, so just humour me and pretend like this isn’t already old news!

So we met up for brunch at Sadie’s Diner, which I’d never even heard of until Davida suggested it. It was perfect for the four of us with our varied diets. Vegan, vegetarian, gluten sensitive, nut allergies… Sadie’s Diner can accommodate almost everyone.

We all got something different: Davida and Suzanne split the vegan Huevos Rancheros and buckwheat banana chocolate chip pancakes, Sam got a veggie burger, and I had the tofu scramble with buttered toast and hash browns. Most tofu scrambles I’ve encountered have been made with tumeric, but this one had a more prominent tomato flavour to it which was different. I liked it, but I think I would have loved those pancakes even more – I was eying them across the table with green eyes of envy!

Overall the food was good, but basic. But that’s not a bad thing! Sometimes it’s nice to just have a good ol’ brunch without the addition of fruity compotes, fancy sauces, or other trendy twists.

Of course I can’t end this post without mentioning the great company. Blogger friends rule!

  1. So jealous that you got to hang out with the girls! Why is it that I live in blogger wasteland? I mean, Edmonton isn’t THAT unappealing

And I’m pretty sure I would have gone with the chocolate chip pancakes. I’m a simple girl so all the dishes sound good, but I’ll use any excuse to get more chocolate in :D

  2. gosh what an amazing group of girls to hang out with! you are so lucky to all live so close

  3. You guys needed a prince charming to complete it…prince charming who was in Australia.

To be honest, I would have picked your dish. Two of my favs- heck three- potatoes, butter and tofu.

  4. Awwww so many lovely ladies in one place! I would have loved to have joined :) Your breakfast looks PERFECT. Love me some brunch.

  5. haha I was eyeing the pancakes too! Next time ;-)

  6. That’s so awesome that you ladies got to hang out! Wished I lived closer, so I could have joined you!

  7. It looks like you guys had a great time! I love tumeric, I didn’t realize it was often used in tofu scrambles. I often use it in stir fry! I’m a salty breakfast kind of girl so I probably would have went with your dish!

  8. I would have shared the pancakes!!!!! Let me know next time!!

I’d go for a diner brunch over a fancy brunch any day!

  9. I prefer brunch places with GINORMOUS PORTIONS!!!!!!!!! Yes yes I do! And it looks like your eggs, fit the bill! :) Screw the fancy, here is a 1/2 an egg brunch, NO! That’s NOT OKAY!

  10. I probably would have picked your meal but like you, I would have been envious of the pancakes. Can’t say I’ve ever had banana chocolate chip pancakes – only one or the other! I never order pancakes since I am partial to my homemade ones and I never make tofu scramble so it’s nice for it to be served to me!

  11. Next time I’ll share my pancakes with you :*

  12. Thats so cool that you meet up! Wish I lived nearby! I love love love pancakes! Especially chocolate chip ones, and banana in there would be even better! I have had white chocolate chip and raspberry before, they were incredible! I love to enjoy pancakes after my 18 mile long runs! Perfect post run fuel for me!

  13. banana chocolate chip pancakes – yum!

  14. You had me at “and juice bar” ;-). Someday I hope to join all you ladies for brunch!

  15. I’ve had all of your orders except the veggie burger- when I go to a diner place that has so many veg options I can just never bring myself to order a burger! Next time, try the perogies. OMG yum!

  16. Amen girl! My favorite simple recipe is an egg + egg whites with two pieces of whole wheat toast topped with pb. Love it after a long day with the boys :)

  17. I absolutely love a good diner! simple and delicious! I have never had a tofu scramble but that is because I always order pancakes when i go out to brunch lol!

  18. To me, Sadie’s is the original 50’s-inspired diner in Toronto. I hope they still have those PEZ dispensers!
