I love weekends

I love weekends… because they mean coming home on a Friday and vegging while simultaneously browsing Twitter and watching whatever movie is on the W Network.

I love weekends… because I have the option of sleeping in. Although lately my body has decided it likes being sleep deprived, so it wakes me up at 5:30 am, even on weekends. But on the plus side this meant I was able to hit up the gym before we got slammed with a snow storm. I did Fitnessista’s winter shape up week 1 workout, which was tough! I’m not gonna lie, I cheated a lot on this workout… and yet somehow I’m still crazy sore today!

I love weekends… because I have time to do things that I don’t have time to do during the week, like check out new podcasts. While doing the shape up workout, I listened to the first Holistic Health Diary podcast, which is by two ladies from London, Ontario where I used to go to school. Their first podcast is just a Q&A session, but I’m excited to listen to some of the others and learn more about fermenting, refined v. unrefined coconut oil, and other fun stuff like that.

I love weekends… because I get to spend some time in the kitchen cooking for me and the boy. Saturday night I made us my favourite chicken piccata recipe, smashed garlicky potatoes and honey thyme roasted carrots. I was really excited for the potatoes, but they weren’t actually that good… so I remedied that by finishing them off in a pan of butter. They were much better after that.

I love weekends… because I they usually involve some kind of dessert. These Oreo cheesecake bites got a thumbs up from both of us!

I love weekends… because they mean lazy Sunday morning breakfasts like this almond butter and banana French toast sandwich with maple syrup. Yes, it was as good as it looks!

I hate weekends… because they’re never long enough!

Why do you love weekends?

  1. weekends are good! i love how low key they usually are and yes they usually (always!) include dessert! :)

  2. Ooo man that French toast looks AMAZING. Weekends are actually super busy for me since I’m dancing most of the time and I teach Sunday school, but I love weekends because I still get to sleep in a bit, I can make hot oatmeal, and I get to spend time with family!

My weekends are actually usually pretty busy too – but at least there’s slightly more time to relax than during the week! ;)

  3. I love weekends when we have nothing to do and no where to go! Those are definitely the best times!

  4. never ever long enough. i need an extra 10 hours just to sleep! haha

  5. Still drooling over that sandwich, and I’m not even the biggest fan of French toast… Then again, almond butter and bananas make anything a winner :D And I seriously lol’d at your comment about the potatoes and butter — that stuff is definitely magical.

I love the weekends because it gives me a chance to catch up with family and friends who are too busy during the week.

  6. Weekends are never long enough – truth! This one was really busy for me, so I wouldn’t have minded another day in there. And your dinner looks almost exactly like the meal Eric ordered from Crave when we went there Saturday night!

Oh, and that french toast sandwich? it looks glorious.

Haha that’s so funny! How did you guys like Crave? I wasn’t blown away by it when I went there, but I’m wondering if it was just the dish I ordered.

  7. This is so cute! I love weekends too!! But they are seriously never long enough. Even long-weekends aren’t love enough! Haha. My fav part of the weekend is baking/cooking and then getting to take pictures in actual sunlight. Trying to take pics during the week when I get home from work is a disaster.

    • Chelsea

Haha I always have to squeeze all my recipe testing and pictures into my weekends too – it can feel a bit stressful actually!

  8. Danielle @LabelsAreForTinCans

That podcast is one of my favourites!

  9. Ughhh so agreed on that last! Joe and I were discussing why all weekends should be at least three days: one day is always spent running errands/doing chores/finishing stuff that doesn’t get done during the week so you really only have one day of fun or one day to recover and rest and neither is enough so thus three day weekends should be implemented. And I love getting to sleep in and take my time doing stuff like making breakfast or getting to the gym. Usually it doesn’t have to be done by a certain time to make it to work like during the week, which I enjoy!

  10. I think i’d like weekends even more if I spent them with you…my weekend was spent moving instead. IT SUCKED.

  11. THERES A BOY????

    SINCE WHEN.

    DETAILS, LETS GO.

Can you tell I couldn’t care less about your weekend now that I know THERES A BOY?

    Hahahahaha

  12. Oh wow!! I follow the Ange girl on Twitter, so I’ll totally check out that podcast and THANK YOU for reminding me that I need to put new material on my iPod so that my commute to school is productive instead of just listening to music (I mainly listen to my fave vegan podcast, but want motivational too!).

I hope you reveal more about the boy ;).

  13. These are exactly the same things I love about weekends. Luckily for me, my weekends start on Thursday night and keep on going right through Monday. I love the Holistic Health Diaries, it is one of my favorite podcasts!

  14. Hahahaha trust Jo to pick up on ‘the boy’…Chelsea, Kale doesn’t count as a boy.

That entire dinner is something I could and would faceplant. Dousing underwhelming food in butter is ALWAYS the answer. ALWAYS.

  15. There are so many great things to love about weekends. I love lazy Saturday morning real fasts that last forever with all my books and notebooka, and I love all the extra cooking time to experiment in the kitchen. I don’t normally sleep in either but having the option is always nice!

  16. Bea

I borrowed Cooking Light’s 2012 recipe book and that chicken piccata caught my eye! I think I’m going to make it tonight :)

  17. I have been in the similar “I love weekends” mood :) less work this semester overall so I have time to run, cook, read for fun and so much more! The Holistic Health Diary sounds interesting! Also… boy?!? I think I missed this ;)

  18. So…I’m jealous of the boy! That dinner (AND dessert) looks amazing…and yeah, a little butter can fix just about anything! ;)

I have a love/hate relationship with weekends…love that I don’t have to go to work, but hate that my sleep schedule stays messed up like I DO! After waking up before 4am yesterday, I totally crashed at 5pm…only to wake up at 9:30pm! Ha! Needless to say, it was a long night…and a little Benedryl AND wine might have been involved to FINALLY get me to sleep by midnight…and then I was up at 3am! *hits head against wall* ;)

    • Chelsea

I actually feel your pain – I have a normal sleep schedule, but I still end up sleep deprived! I was up in the middle of the night from 1:30 am – 4 am because I just couldn’t sleep. And that was after a week of already being sleep deprived! Why can’t I sleep!?!?

      • Heather @ Kiss My Broccoli

Oh honey! Well, one good thing about sleep deprivation is that it can ONLY last so long…after a pretty poopy night on Sunday, I came home after work yesterday morning and slept for TEN HOURS! I couldn’t believe it! I hope you’ve been able to catch up a bit too!
