Cupcakes and Lettuce Love

Lately I’ve settled into a solid posting schedule of Mondays, Wednesday, and Friday. I like it. It’s not too frequent or too sparse, it gives me the weekends to write some posts ahead of time if needed, and the routine of it means you guys know when to expect a post from me.

But then I had to go and mess up my schedule by not posting this Monday. Sorry guys! I had a to-do list that was miles long and just not enough time this weekend. Not to mention my sister flew in on Friday after finishing her last exam, so of course a Saturday sister day was in order. We started with sushi at our favourite sushi spot and followed it up with Christmas shopping (okay, and a bit of personal shopping!) at Sherway Gardens.

Sunday began with an early breakfast and Lululemon yoga with my friend Tracey. One thing I really noticed about this class was that I was actually able to keep a clear, focused mind the whole time, which rarely happens for me – my mind is usually going a mile a minute thinking about things! It was nice to feel so “in the zone” for once.

Afterwards we picked up Allyson to join us for Kelly’s Bake Shoppe‘s one year anniversary, meaning free cupcakes! Totally worth the 15 minute wait in line out in the cold. I don’t think there’s anything I wouldn’t do for cupcakes.

Allyson had to run some quick errands, but then we met up again to go to Kindfood, which has now been rebranded as Lettuce Love Cafe. They have some new dishes on the menu that I’m dying to try, like avocado fries and vegan nachos! But those aren’t available on their Sunday brunch menu, so I got their tempeh chili, which was still a new-to-me dish. It was awesome!

As much as I liked their old name “Kindfood” and as much as I miss the QuinWow bowl on their old menu, I love their new image as Lettuce Love Cafe. It’s more hip, more modern, but with the same great service and food. And now I just have an excuse to go more often than usual, since there are now a bunch of new dishes I need to try! That’s a valid excuse, right?

The rest of my Sunday was spent tackling my to-do list like a champ. Laundry got done, food got prepped, room got cleaned, groceries got bought, and a good chunk of my readings got done. I had a huge list of articles to read in preparation for my family health team rotation of my dietetic internship, which I started yesterday. And I already love it! Life is good, guys. Life is good.

What’s the last free thing you got?

What did you do this weekend?

  1. Yummmy! That cupcake looks delicious! What flavor did you go for? I noticed you said about avocado fries….I would love to hear what you think of them, I really didn’t like them when I tried them (somewhere different), as I thought they had a slightly bitter aftertaste for some reason. Let me know what you think @tinamuir if you remember….If it was just a bad set of fries I want to know as I LOVE avocados!

    Thanks for sharing :)

It was a mixed chocolate/vanilla cupcake with chocolate frosting!

I’ll definitely do a review of the avocado fries once I try them. :)

  2. I like the Mon/Wed/Fri posting schedule too! Although lately, it’s turned into Mon/Fri or Wed/Fri for me, but I’m not really sure why. Maybe I’m just lazy! Sounds like you had a wonderfully productive weekend… and I would totally wait out in the cold for cupcakes too! I can’t remember the last thing I got for free, but my boss is taking me out for lunch today, so that’ll be free! :)

  3. Avocado fries?!?! How?! Please report back after you try them – I NEED TO KNOW… and I won’t be able to sleep until then. Lol.

Hmm… the last free thing… was probably the last time I went to Davids Tea. The manager always gives me a free tea.. I don’t know why…

Eek I’m sorry for causing you a week of sleepless nights already! I’ll be sure to try them soon so you can get some rest! ;)

  4. Last free thing I got was an awesome Quest Protein Bars sample pack! Which I’m actually giving two away on my blog today!

  5. tempeh chili just sounds delicious in this cold weather. heck, I bet there would be a line out of the door for hours if one of our cupcakes shops in dc were giving away cupcakes.

  6. Last free thing… hmmm… OH! A pack of Simple makeup removing wipes  They were having a “buy one get one free” at London Drugs, so I made sure to snatch one up. I would have much rather had a cupcake though…

And this weekend… oooof. I stayed home and tried to keep myself warm in -25 degree weather. I did manage to get out and help my parents decorate their place for Christmas, though, which is always fun :)

  7. Thanks so much for mentioning us Chelsea!! xo We really appreicate it.

So great seeing you and Allyson ! You Chelsea are a part of the first years history !

  9. Can’t wait to try Kindfood/Love Lettuce; stop tempting me!!! :P

  10. Vegan nachos and avocado fries?!? Remind me of those when we have our meetup. I can’t wait to see the rebranding! And heads up: I may be insisting we to Kelly’s afterwards as well…:-p
And I won one of the Swanson’s giveaways, so a $100 gift card was the last free thing I got ;-)

  11. avocado fries!??! NEED. Ugh why am I away on the 21st?! Not cool. And yes I would wait 15 minutes in the cold for free food. I’d do a lot of things for free food!

  12. It’s great to see that you are so happy! Do you know why Kindfood changed its name? Are they aiming to expand?

Also, I always pass Kelly’s but never go in. That needs to change!

    • Chelsea

No, I believe they needed to change their name due to trademark issues. And you definitely need to try Kelly’s – it’s amazing!

  13. I would definitely want to try the avocado fries too, sounds intriguing! Your sisterly bonding activities sound exactly like the adventures I go on with my sisters. Food and a little shopping? Perfection!

  14. The last free thing I got was definitely NOT a cupcake! That would have been awesome. I have no idea what the last free thing I got was, but clearly it wasn’t that or I would have remembered ;) It looks like you had an awesome weekend hun! Living life and enjoying time with family and friends trumps all else as far as I’m concerned, so I’m glad you enjoyed yourself and took an extra day to tell us about it! I can’t wait to hear more about those avocado fries, too! I’ve heard of them but have yet to find them around here…they sound delicious!

  15. Free always makes things taste 100X better ;) I’ve never heard of avocado fries but I’ve never had an avocado dish that I didn’t like… I need to find a restaurant that serves them in the states!

  16. Gasp, how are we going to have our Kindfood date now?! ;-) I kid, I kid, I’m sure a Lettuce Love date will be just as enjoyable. And yay for new menu items to help you deal with the loss of your favorite bowl!

  17. P

I would so wait in a line in the freezing cold for a FREE cupcake. The cupcake you got looks like it could have used a bit more frosting though ;)

  18. Glad to hear life is good! I love the new name of Kindfood!

  19. dang it, now i’m craving seaweed salad!! that is one fabulous looking cupcake!

  20. How rude of you not posting on Monday…kidding ;) You have a great balance and should be proud of it!

A change of name and new menu items are definitely valid reasons to go back! the last free thing I got was a candycane at the shopping centre. then I lost it. Fail whale.

  21. New menu items are definitely a valid excuse! That tempeh chili looks really good especially since the weather has been so freezing lately! Love sherway, haven’t been there in forever!

  22. SUSHI is the best shopping fuel EVER! :) And I need to try a LULULEMON class at some point! I mean, I have all of their clothing, so I would fit right in. LOL!

  23. Awww! It makes me so happy that you’re in such a good place right now! Sounds like you’ve got a great amount of balance going for you…I must admit, I’m a bit jealous! ;) Though I will say that after taking a bit of a break for the last week, I’m feeling a bit less stressed…now to just tackle all the blog reading a need to catch up on! Lol

Last free thing I got was some chocolate coconut covered cashews at Costco (ohhh, how’s that for some alliteration?!). They tasted like a Mounds bar! Your cupcake looks delish! What flavor did you get?

I’ve had avocado fries before, but was a bit underwhelmed by them. Not sure if it was just the place I went to or not since it was my first time trying them. Have you ever had them before?

  24. I really liked their old name, too!! And WISH I was in Burlington for the one year anniversary for Kelly’s. My mom and grandma went…I was jealous because I was at home studying, which just made it worse! hahah

  25. I am so jealous.. Free cupcakes? I could use one right now! It’s always neat to see restaurants rebrand themselves. Looks to me like it was a change for the better… The avocado fries stood out to me, as did one of their new super salads. Can’t wait to try it!!

I think I should follow your cue and set up a blogging scheme. A break was needed at first but I really do miss it!
