Weekend. I think that might be my new favourite word. During the week I barely have time to finish all my internship readings, let alone relax, so weekends are seriously a godsend. I like mine to have a good balance of socializing and downtime, just like this past weekend.
Friday night I dressed up to go downtown for drinks with my friend Paula. Lately we’re trying out more lounge-type places where we can just have some girl talk over a glass of wine. We went to The Rude Native and while I wasn’t the biggest fan of its wine list, it had a good vibe. We were definitely the youngest people there though!
On Saturday I met up with Molly to try out a hatha yoga class at Be Yoga & Wellness. We decided to take the level 1 class since we didn’t know how difficult the classes are, and it turned out to be really relaxing. It was actually the studio’s first birthday that day, so to celebrate there was also gorgeous live music by local artists John Bauld and Shonna Brown – it gave it a great atmosphere!
There were more fun celebrations going on in the studio lobby. Nourishing Nosh, a local company, was giving out some free samples of kale chips and baked goods. I grabbed a choco-cherry granola bite to try and it was delicious!
Our post-yoga lunch was at Kindfood. I decided to try their BLAT (vegan bac’un, lettuce, avocado and tomato with shredded carrots and housemade vegan mayo) and a side beauty salad. It was really good (as is everything from Kindfood!) but I think their rice bowls will always be my favourite.
Possibly the most exciting moment of my weekend? Finding kabocha squash at the Oakville Whole Foods! Hands down my favourite squash.
Oh, and since no weekend is complete without a trip to the farmers’ market, I dropped by the downtown market at Centro Garden on Sunday and picked up some local apples and pears. It officially feels like fall now!
What’s your favourite type of yoga class?
Have you tried kabocha squash before? Are you obsessed?
