Fresh N Wolfe

Yesterday I had to make a trip to London, Ontario to have my orthotics readjusted. Normally I don’t really like making the 1 hour and 45 minute drive there and back in one day, but this time I was excited because I planned to meet up with my friend Shannon while I was there.

We decided to meet up at Fresh N Wolfe, a new take out restaurant that just opened on Talbot Street earlier this month. I think it’s a great concept: fresh, healthy food that is fast and ready to go so that you can just grab it on your lunch break. Or you can opt to eat it there – there is seating inside as well as on the patio they share with The Early Bird.

Their menu consists of paninis, wraps, salads, and soup as well as smoothies, fresh vegetable juices, and milkshakes. It’s a small menu, but it has something to suit everyone’s dietary needs, whether you’re vegan, a meat-eater, gluten free, etc. Shannon and I wanted to try almost everything, so we decided to split two items so that we could try more.

First was the smoked tofu, kale, and quinoa salad. I was surprised that this was the large size because it seemed quite small. It was really good though and packed with flavours of garlic, parsley, tomato, and the smokey tofu.

We also split the prosciutto panini, which was huge! Even half of the sandwich was still quite a filling portion. And the flavour combination of prosciutto, brie cheese, arugula, and fig and rosemary jam was absolutely fantastic.

I was pretty full by the end of this meal, which is too bad because I would have loved to try one of their smoothies. They have some really creative fruit combinations using fresh herbs like basil and mint. Next time I’m in the city I will definitely be stopping by for one (and another one of those paninis)!

    Kind of related, I feel the need to share with you how much my life has changed since I picked up some a) custom inserts and b) sandals from (not affiliated with them at all, I swear).
    Like you I’ve had ongoing issues with pain during exercise (messed up hip flexor, tight IT band, knees collapsing inwards etc.) and my god these things have helped SO much. You mentioned that you bought professional orthotics, but if you’re ever frustrated with having a single pair, or not being able to wear them with sandals, I really can’t recommend these enough.
    They’re basically semi-custom? You heat them and they mould to your foot (though the arch support itself is built to remain fairly sturdy) and you can trim them to fit your shoes. I literally couldn’t walk longer than twenty minutes without pain, bought a pair of these, and did a walking trip (Disney World!) with no pain at all. In nothing but Keds tennis shoes + inserts.

  9. I need that panini- stat…sounds so flavorful!! Does sushi count as fast food? If so, that’s my answer! Otherwise I’m going to go with Chipotle :)

  10. I hadn’t even heard of this place yet – I’ll have to add it to my list of places to go once I move back. And mainly for that panini – holy wow that looks amazing.
    Lately, my healthy-take out has been the ready-made section at the grocery store, or pita pit. I would love it if we had more healthy take-out options in these parts.

  12. I really love paninis. I wish more restaurant existed like this honestly, with creative meals that are fresh and healthy. I love that you and your friend decided to share so you could try more. I love doing that! The salad could have been a little bigger, but flavor>size in my opinion

  16. I love restaurants like Fresh n’ Wolfe! It’s really nice to have healthy options available when you’re pressed for time and/or don’t want to sit down for an hour-long meal. It also makes my heart happy when places cater to the GF crowd! :) Both the salad and the sandwich you shared with Shannon sound (and look!) absolutely amazing. I’m especially swooning over the prosciutto, brie, arugula, and fig/ rosemary jam combination – holy yum in my tum!

    My favorite place to get healthy take-out in DC is a place called Sweetgreen. They specialize in gourmet salads that feature ingredients that are mostly organic and sourced locally. It’s a little pricey (usually $10-$12 for a salad), but so so worth it!
