One day, two restaurants

Yesterday I drove back to London early in the morning to go to my physiotherapist appointment and then write my clinical nutrition exam. I received some good news from my physiotherapist that she’s starting to see some improvements – but still no running yet!

In between physio and my exam I went out to lunch with my mom and her friend, Mary (the three of us drove to London together because mom and Mary had some shopping to do) at our favourite lunch spot: Organic Works Bakery Cafe.

I got my usual turkey sandwich with avocado, tomato, sprouts and Dijon and a side salad. I was super hungry though so I ended up eating about 1/3 of my mom’s sandwich as well!

Then I wrote my exam. Considering how hard I studied, I found it a lot more difficult than I expected. I usually do really well on clinical nutrition exams though, so I’m crossing my fingers that this one went just as well!

I was feeling a bit bummed about the exam, but dinner at one of my favourite restaurants cheered me up. Garlic’s of London never disappoints!

We started out with some much needed wine. I had the Beringer Cabernet Sauvignon, which was really smooth, just the way I like my reds. They also brought out some house made bread with olive oil and balsamic for dipping.

Next I had the beet and St. Mary’s chevre salad with local greens, maple vinaigrette, and Parmesan. Simple but delicious, thanks to the fresh and local ingredients!

For my entree I decided on the Arctic char, since I had such good memories of the last time I ordered arctic char at Garlic’s of London. This time it came with roasted fingerling potatoes, root vegetables, green beans and tomato chutney. The fish was cooked slightly longer than I like it, but I still really enjoyed it along with the rest of the meal. The tomato chutney was especially good and added some really nice sweetness to the plate.

Unfortunately Mary’s pork tenderloin came out cold, but our waiter handled it really well and brought her out a warm meal quickly so that we could enjoy our food together. Garlic’s of London has such good food and service that keeps me coming back again and again. I’m already excited to try the mushroom risotto the next time I visit!

Do you have a usual order at any restaurants or do you always change up what you order?

What was the last restaurant you went to?

  1. Despite the fact that I lived in London for the vast majority of my life, I've never actually been to Garlic's! Your dinner looks great though, so I'm going to have to change that on a home visit sometime.I'm the sort of person who always tries to change up their order when returning to a restaurant. I like to try everything!

  2. oh man that all sounds so good, I can't wait to go out to eat when I am home

  3. I try to mix it up when I go out, but since I'm a new vegetarian I find myself playing it safe more than I used to. I'm going out to dinner tonight with Joe's family and have NO idea what to get. Wish me luck!

  4. I LOVE arctic char! Such a great fish that you don't hear about very often.

  5. Sounds like a rather delicious day to me, and heck yes to artic char! I have only had it once in my life but I really did enjoy it… you reminded me I need it again :)And sorry to hear you are a bit bummed with the exam… although I bet you did much better than you think! I wish you the very best with it

  6. Undeniably believe that which you stated.Your favourite reason seemed to be on the internet the easiest thing to be mindful of. I say to you, I definitely get irked even as other folks think about issues that they just don't recognise about. You controlled to hit the nail upon the top and defined out the entire thing with no need side effect , people could take a signal. Will likely be back to get more. i'd order the usual, but i'll get my friends or partner to order something else so i could try them!

  8. Mmm…everything about your meal at Garlic's is calling to me! Smooth red wine? Check. Chevre salad with beets and Parmesan? Check, check, check! And Arctic Char? Umm, a zillion checks! Love that fish. I'm so glad you were able to enjoy a relaxing meal with your family after a semi-stressful exam. Even though you didn't feel 100% confident, I bet it's a relief to be done! There are a few restaurants that always demand the same order. ;) For example, I almost always get seared ahi at PF Chang's, and ALWAYS order scallops at Zaytinya and Jaleo (my two favorite DC restaurants). At other restaurants, I like to mix it up, however, I tend to gravitate towards similar foods (anything containing tuna, scallops, goat cheese and garlic!). Hope you're enjoying your weekend, love! Miss you!! <3

  9. Mmm… Organic Works looks so good! I definitely want to try it the next time I'm in London. The last restaurant I went to was the Happy Traveller in Guelph :) Delicious!

  10. Don't you hate when exams are not what you expect? they totally bum me out. I usually order about the same thing at restaurants especially when it is a favorite restaurant and I know what I like

  11. i like to change it up! i especially like ordering things i don't make at home!! otherwise i get mad about spending money on something i could have made way cheaper haha

  12. Everything looks delicious, especially the arctic char! I've never tried that variety of fish but I am almost certain I would love it. The last restaurant I went to was Nandos and I changed up my order today, and went for: hummus & pitta bread to start with followed by butterfly chicken breast with ratatouille…definitely hit the spot!

  13. I really rarely go out to eat. I just can't find too many healthy options and it's a lot of money….I always go for ethnic food. My favorite place is this afghan restaurant near my house. SO GOOD.

  14. I definitely have a usual order that I get at restaurants… I don't like change, haha! Sometimes I switch it up, but I usually have a go-to favorite that I get 90% of the time. Or a few that I switch back and forth between.

  15. Hmm, I've never tried Arctic Char before. Need to keep that in mind the next time I'm out! I usually tend to mix things up whenever I dine out…I love to make my way around a menu at my favorite restaurants. The last restaurant I went to was Bonefish Grille… their Bang Bang Shrimp is something I ALWAYS order!
