Saturday day trip to Organic Works

Hi everyone! Did you all have fun weekends? Mine was busy! It included a day trip to London (Ontario, not England – I don’t think I could do that round trip in a day!) sandwiched by two days of working. They’ve got me working the day shift lately, which is from 7 am – 3 pm. I love having my evenings free now!

And it was nice to have Saturday off to visit my friend Andrea in London. I left home at 10 am with some snacks for the car (baby carrots and endurance crackers from Oh She Glows’ recipe), then made a quick stop at Starbucks for a decaf Americano.

The iced drink was necessary to get me through my sweaty 1.5 hour drive – my car’s AC is broken, so my car was unbearably hot for the whole trip!

I was so thankful to escape my steamy car when I got to London and stopped for lunch at Organic Works with Andrea. I just discovered this bakery cafe a few weeks ago with my sister and couldn’t wait to go back!

Andrea and I both ordered turkey sandwiches – hers with tomato, sprouts, lettuce, onion and Dijon and mine with tomato, sprouts, lettuce and avocado. But there was a mix up with our orders, so we ended up each eating half of each others’ sandwich! On the side I got The Works salad with spinach, tomato, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, and a delicious dressing. It was a bit overly salted, but still good!

We were comfortably full after this meal, but still had room for a little more. Which worked out perfectly because Organic Works is also a bakery with a 100% vegan, gluten-free, and most importantly nut-free selection!

I got the sugar-free banana date ball to eat right away, plus a whole bunch of goodies to take home – a loaf of buckwheat chia bread, a macaroon, a multi-seed bar, and a chocolate goji berry cookie. The banana date ball was delicious and I’m sure the rest will be just as good!

After lunch we walked around downtown and stumbled upon an International Food Festival in Victoria Park. We couldn’t believe we didn’t know about this! There were stalls from tons of local restaurants serving cuisines from all over the world – we were dying to try out some of the grub, but had absolutely no room left. But at least we now have a list of restaurants we want to try out when we’re both back at school in the fall!

What’s your favourite thing to get from a bakery?

What did you do this weekend?
