Waldo’s on King Review

It’s Friday! I have no classes today, but thanks to a new volunteering gig, my Fridays are now just as busy as other weekdays. But my Saturday and Sunday are pretty open, so I’m looking forward to relaxing then!

This week my mom and grandma came to visit to celebrate my mom’s belated birthday because I wasn’t able to make it home for her actual birthday. We went out for lunch at Waldo’s on King (website), a downtown bistro that’s attached to the indoor farmer’s market. We’d been there once before about 3 years ago (holy cow, I can’t believe it’s been that long since sophomore year!) and remembered liking it.

As always, I had so much trouble deciding on my order. I eventually decided on ordering two appetizers, like I did when I was at Garlic’s a few weeks ago.

I started with the tomato and goat cheese stack with mixed greens. It was good, but not as good as the similar dish I had at Garlic’s. This one from Waldo’s on King didn’t use heirloom tomatoes, so it just wasn’t as flavourful.

I also ordered the sesame-crusted seared tuna that came with wasabi mayo, soy sauce, and orange-ginger sauce. Again, it was good but I wasn’t blow away.

I think next time I’ll just stick with Garlic’s!

After my mom and grandma left, I was persuaded by my roommate to do a Jillian Michaels workout video with her. The one we did was Banish Fat, Boost Metabolism. This was my first time doing a workout video, so I had no idea what to expect!

The video was 45 minutes and consisted of 7 circuits, each repeated 2 times. I’ve got to say, I was surprised at how much it got my heart rate up. I was sweating within 5 minutes! And it worked my whole body, but especially my lower body. There were lots of kicks, jumping squats, knee-highs, and jumps to target the legs. In fact, my thighs and calves were absolutely killing me the next day… and the day after that… and the day after that.

Afterwards I had a sort of random dinner of everything I was craving: scrambled eggs, toast with butter, roasted sweet potato with cinnamon, and sauteed kale with nooch.

Do you prefer two appetizers or one big meal?

Are you a fan of workout videos? What is your favourite one?

  1. I like having two appetizers because you get to try two different things. On the other hand if there's something really delicious that I'm craving, like a thin crust pizza, I'll order that :) I've heard the Jillian Michaels workouts are good, but I'm a fan of Zuzana's workouts on Body Rock :) plus you don't have to buy a DVD!

  2. I usally just do Pilates or yoga dvd's. I've never tried the Jillian Michaels ones. :)

  3. I love the name of the restaurant. Makes me think of those Where's Waldo books. They were my favorite! I don't normally order two appetizers. I prefer to do a salad and entree.

  4. Hmm it depends what catches my eye on the menu. I love sharing a few appetizers with the table though. It's nice to be able to try a little of everything that way.

  5. I have no classes on friday either! It was the best thing I could have ever done for my schedule. Plus its worth the 8 am's that I have. It depends on my mood, but I really do like having two appetizers because you get to sample two different types of dishes instead of just one

  6. Jillian's videos are some of the best. A lot of videos aren't hard enough for me, but I work up a sweat and actually feel like I got something out of my workout when it's with Jillian!I think it's awesome how you can see how you've improved from how you used to be since you order two appetizers now. It really depends on the menu for me, but I love doing more small plates so I get to taste more!

  7. I think two apps are the way to go… more to try this way and then you can also pick at other people's plates heehe

  8. Hahah it totally looks like a face in those tomatoes! Am I crazy??I'm loving the jillian yoga dvd these days! It's tough!

  9. This video is truely an 'EXTREME CARDIO' killer!!! Really, I was sweating so hard that I had to stop and take a rest after doing the 180's…… I thought that I was going to have a heart attack =)…. I did turn it back on after having a 5 minute break and completed the entire video, but it was EXTREME!!! This will get you in shape and I really don't think anyone really could complain about getting enough cardio from this DVD.

  10. Say me the true!! Healthy food is really delicious??? I want to know if it is true because I am thinking in change my food habits but I am not sure if it is a good decision !
